![]() ![]() It was also a bit more expensive than the other dimsum spots in Chinatown that we’ve been to-for our group of 10, it came out to $27 per person, which is a bit hefty. Beef crepes: I normally don’t love crepes, but the beef crepes here were really good in my opinon. Short ribs with pepper: Tasty and well marinated, nicely textured meat. Chicken Feet with Homemade Sauce: A dimsum staple, the homemade sauce addition was really good. Steamed Malay Sponge Cake: this is also a pretty unique menu item that I don’t commonly see at other dimsum spots, and it was really good, spongey, and flavorful! Taro Egg Tarts: delicious and unique I’ve never seen this offered at any other dimsum spot I’ve been to and I lowkey liked it even more than the traditional egg tart. We ordered a lot of things (most of them are pictured), but a couple of the standout ones were: There didn’t seem to be as many meat options and there were basically no vegetable options besides a stuffed eggplant dish, which wasn’t that good in my opinion.ĭespite that, they made all the other dishes really well-from custard buns to egg tarts (and taro egg tarts) to shumai to crepes. I felt that while all the dimsum dishes were good, the menu selection was a little limited in terms of meats and vegetables, compared to other dim sum places I’ve tried in the area. They were attentive in refilling our tea kettles, but never refilled our waters unfortunately. Our orders came out pretty fast and the servers were kind. The interior is large, spacious, and decorated simply. You will never find them there at 8:30 AM.Located on the street directly across the main Chinatown square, Phoenix is a popular spot- expect a wait especially for weekend dimsum, which is what my friends and I came for. ![]() I have rarely seen them on carts and they serve them later in the Dim Sum time period. Since the Egg Tarts are my favorite, you always have to ask them to get them to bring them to your table. Remodeling still did not seem complete, thus you might have a different impression later when it is finished and they read all these reviews. I guess I can't judge by this visit and perhaps another time if I sat in the right spot, I might get lucky. Since I had to chase the carts several times, it really turned me off. The DIM SUM did not seem to be much different than the others, just that I had to get up to chase the carts all the time since they would all veer in a different direction which was very annoying. When Phoenix remodeled, I went on a Sunday, which is the busiest day in Chinatown for all restaurants. When CAI and Ming Hin opened, I switched to check them out. I have been to Phoenix many times and used to be the only place i visited. I'm glad I can confidently check that food type off of my life list. The saving grace was that it was so busy with Chinese people that you knew it must be good enough for them to flock to, so if you want to know if you like Dim Sum, this is the place to find out. ![]() It was a frantic scene, not at all relaxing. The bathroom was not sparkling but not as dirty as some. The place was not awfully dirty, however there were many greasy smudges on the glass doors between the stairway you come up and the restaurant itself. It was $38 for two of us by the end of our meal - they keep a tab on what they give you and keep the tab on your table. The cost was not a problem, but we would have liked to know what was on our plates and what the other choices were going to be. Only when an english speaking manager type came along did we have an opportunity to ask questions about the food, what it was and probably could have asked how much it was that we were being charged. ![]() One of them finally just laughed at us and walked away. We had absolutely no clue of what to take when it was offered by the "Cart People", didn't know prices, and sadly could not understand a word that the "Cart People" were saying. The restaurant was so busy (which would indicate that the food is excellent). I know Phoenix has gotten excellent reviews and they are recommended in a couple of travel books, but, for me - nothing was that good. ![]()
